The Mary Lynn Higgins Youth Fund Charter Sponsor
Travel Scholarships
Every year in Ontario, over 300,000 students hit the road with classmates on their annual
school trip. In addition, over 4,500 students are left behind to only imagine what their
year-end trip might have been like.
Mary Lynn Higgins was an owner and director
in the educational tour business with School Voyageurs. She believed that travel is an
extension of the classroom. She dedicted her life to planning memorable yet highly
educational tours for schools travelling all over the world. Accompanying many of
the group tours she planned, Mary Lynn gained insight into the importance of social
interaction, learning, and the overall feeling of inclusion that these adventures
represented. Whether students travel to their Nation's Capital in Ottawa or to the
Masai Mara in Kenya, the experience contributes to the students' knowledge and
personal growth.
The Mary Lynn Higgins Youth Fund provides travel
scholarships to students at the elementary and high school level. These
scholarships are awarded to students in good standing who would otherwise
not be able to travel with their class due to financial restrictions. Students
are nominated by one of the faculty and the nomination is endorsed by the
Principal.
The MLH Youth Fund has no administration costs!
The MLH Youth Fund has received tremendous encouragement from various boards of education
and is viewed as a vital support to "out-of-the-classroom" education. Scholarships
were awarded to 65 students in the 2006-2007 school year.
It is our goal to
award scholarships to 100 Canadian students in the 2007-2008 school year. We need your
help to achieve that goal. Please note that 100% of all donations go to the students.
